Overview
The Division of Complex Family Planning in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at UW includes seven complex family planning subspecialist faculty and proudly collaborates with others who work in the field of family planning across the School of Medicine and university. All faculty members are involved in research in some capacity, and two of our faculty members are clinician-scientists who spend the majority of their time on research. While the surgical and clinical experience is exceptional, this program also provides an excellent opportunity for clinical, epidemiologic, or health sciences research.
Faculty members engage in research funded by government, private, institutional, and foundation sponsors, offering the opportunity for participation in a wide variety of topics within family planning. Faculty member Dr. Lyndsey Benson serves as the Director of Research for the Division of Complex Family Planning and facilitates the identification of mentors for each fellow based on the fellow’s interests. Our division has research infrastructure in place to provide statistical analysis and research coordinator support to our fellows as needed.
Our fellows have a strong track record of research success, with peer-reviewed publications including in Contraception, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Reproductive Health, and Sexual Medicine. In recent years, our fellows have received competitive funding from the Society of Family Planning, including the Uta Landy Complex Family Planning Scholars award and the Emerging Scholars in Family Planning Award. They have successfully presented their research at national meetings including Society of Family Planning, FIGO, and the National Abortion Federation.
