OB/GYN Northwest Hospital (NWH) - R3 Medical Student Orientation

This is unpublished

Overview

The NWH R3 medical student rotation runs for six weeks within the UW OB/GYN department. The students will spend 2 of the 6 weeks on a sub-specialty and will be assigned to either GYNONC or UROGYN.

The remainder of the rotation is divided between the labor and delivery unit, the OBGYN generalist clinic, and the operating room. Students will take OB 24-hour call at least 2 times during the rotation with optional calls open to the student. Students should have opportunities to do OB/GYN related histories and physical examinations as well as participate in OB/GYN procedures including deliveries. Students should also observe and participate in gyn surgery when appropriate.

The first morning of the rotation is spent in Orientation and EPIC training.  Wednesdays are didactic days at UWMC Montlake. There is an OB/GYN exam at Montlake the last Friday of the rotation.  Students can chart notes in Epic for signature by an Attending.

During the 6 weeks, the primary doctors working with the student will change, with an eye on balance regarding types of patients seen by different providers and also an eye on schedules.
