OB/GYN Northwest Hospital (NWH) - R3 Medical Student Orientation

This is unpublished

Overview

The NWH R3 medical student rotation runs for four weeks within the UW OB/GYN department.  One week will be spent on the GYN/ONC service with flexibility to pull the student back and from GYN/ONC to OB to GYN for any particularly interesting cases.  Student will take OB call 3 times during the first 3 weeks of the rotation with an optional 4th call open to the student.  There will be a call room made available to the student.  Student should have opportunities to do OB/GYN related histories and physical examinations as well as participate in OB/GYN procedures including deliveries.  Student should also observe and participate in gyn surgery when appropriate. The first morning of the rotation is spent in Orientation and Sorian training.  Wednesdays are didactic days at UWMC Montlake. Students also spend two days during the rotation in the Midwives Clinic at Northwest. The last Friday of the rotation there is an OB/GYN exam at Montlake.  Students can chart notes in Epic and Sorian for signature by Attending.

Every 4 weeks, the primary doctors working with the student will change, with an eye on balance regarding types of patients seen by different providers and also an eye on schedules.  There will be 2 or 3 primary OB/GYN docs each month with others filling in here and there as needed for OR time or days off.
