What do you like to do in your free-time?

Dr. Sapico enjoys spending time with her family and three dogs, doing anything that is plant-related and relaxing with at home watching true crime shows!

Why did you decide to pursue a career in academic medicine at UW?

I chose to work in academic medicine because I would like to create a postpartum program with specific focus on hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, perinatal mood and anxiety disorders and gestational diabetes. I hope to improve maternal outcomes but also teach future clinicians the importance of postpartum care.

What is one professional or academic accomplishment of which you are most proud and why?

I won best poster for my presentation on the Postpartum Wellness and Recovery Program. It showed me that not only is there strong interest in postpartum care but that my program is making a positive impact on maternal outcomes.

What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

It's ok to ask for help.

What is one thing that brings you joy, either inside or outside of work?

My three dogs - they're crazy and annoying and very spoiled - but I love them so much!

What inspires you?

My parents have always been my biggest inspiration. They left their home country to live and work in the US so that my sister and I could have the lives we live now. There is no greater show of love than that.

When do you feel the most impactful?

I feel I am most impactful when I see patients improving and thriving because of the care they received.
