Biography

Emily Hazan is a board-certified nurse midwife, women's healthcare nurse practitioner and adult nurse practitioner. She specializes in prenatal care, childbirth, postpartum care and reproductive healthcare.

Emily is passionate about partnering with pregnant individuals and their families towards the goals of healthy pregnancies and healthy babies. She is committed to listening to individuals and guiding them through their pregnancy and birth experience. She uses the nurse-midwifery philosophy that focuses on the needs of the individual and family for physical, emotional and social support. She encourages clients to take an active role in their care. Pregnancy and childbirth are normal physiologic processes and Emily strives to empower pregnant people to have the childbirth experiences they envision in an environment of safety. Pregnancy and childbirth are a special time in a person's life, but just a sliver in the lifespan. So, Emily also enjoys working with people across their lifespan by providing comprehensive well person care, birth control services, and gynecological care.

When Emily is not at work, she is kept busy by her four children (ages 11, 9, 3, and 1) and husband. They spend most of their free time camping in the woods and rafting in the summer time and on the ski hill in the winter. If she has any spare time, Emily can be found running, read a good historical fiction novel, or knitting.

Why did you decide to pursue a career in OBGYN?

Prior to becoming a midwife, I had an established career as an Adult and Women’s Healthcare Nurse Practitioner. Working as a nurse practitioner enabled me to become a well rounded clinician and to provide comprehensive and evidence based care to women/people across the lifespan. I then decided to pursue a career in Midwifery because I wanted to expand my scope of practice so that I could care for people during pregnancy, childbirth, and in the postpartum period.

What inspires you?

I am inspired every time I am with a person in labor. Each person's journey is different, but it is always inspirational and demonstrates strength, love, and power.
