Personal Interests:
I enjoy spending time with my husband and two children. I also enjoy traveling, exercise, gardening and reading.
Why did you decide to pursue a career in OB/GYN?
I was inspired during early medical school by my excellent mentors and teachers. I was always very interested in women's health. I loved the diversity of the specialty. I wanted to empower and care for women.
What do you like about working at UW Medicine?
The University of Washington cares for a very diverse, complex group of patients. I am constantly challenged in this health care setting. I love working with our trainees as they mature and grow in their pursuit of a medical career. I also really enjoy the camaraderie with my colleagues, both in OB/GYN and throughout the medical center.
What are your favorite things about living in the Seattle area?
I love all the green and water in Seattle. I grew up in a flat, landlocked Midwest town. There are so many wonderful parks and outdoor activities in this city and nearby. I also love the amazing food here. This is a great place to raise children as well.
What inspires you?
I am inspired by patients every day. I share their sadness and their joys. They challenge me and compel me to be a lifelong learner. I am also inspired by my amazing partners and colleagues. In addition, there is tremendous, innovative work being done in this School of Medicine and I am honored to be a part of it. Finally, I am continually inspired by my daughters, especially as they head towards adolescence and beyond.
