Introduction
The Ob/Gyn Clinical Clerkship for WWAMI medical students is an established rotation beginning the spring 2002. Your educational experience will include office-based obstetrics and gynecology, hospital based labor, delivery, and gynecologic surgery.
Cheyenne Obstetrics & Gynecology
Cheyenne Obstetrics and Gynecology is a private practice that has been in existence since 1979. Currently, it consists of 4 Board Certified Obstetrician/Gynecologists, 1 additional OB-GYN physician, and 1 Nurse Practitioners. Our practice is located in a brand new office building adjacent to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center.
Cheyenne Regional Medical Center (CRMC)
Cheyenne Regional Medical Center is the only full-service hospital for Cheyenne, Wyoming, the state capital. Patient populations are derived from the southeastern region of Wyoming, western Nebraska, and northern Colorado. Cheyenne is approximately 100 miles due north of Denver, Colorado and sits on the crossroads of Interstate 80 and Interstate 25. Approximately 1000 deliveries occur at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center yearly, and approximately 70% of these are performed by Cheyenne Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Our hospital, Cheyenne Regional Medical Center, provides a very generous ‘Greenhouse Grill’ card for each student which is good at the hospital ‘Greenhouse Grill’ cafeteria, 214 coffee shop and the Pink Boutique. (If a student is in Cheyenne for more than one (1) rotation the student will be presented with only one card during their first rotation.)
Housing
A fully furnished, one-bedroom house will be provided 1 mile from the hospital/clinic and includes high-speed internet access.
Our student will be conveniently and cozily housed in their own quaint little house that is a mile from our office/hospital/parking ramp complex and a block away from one of our city parks. The student has their own space and, literally, an entire park to use as their own along with our local YMCA which is ½ a block from the park. Gold’s Gym, where most of our students like to go to work out, is also within a mile.
Transportation
Having a car will be convenient but is not a necessity. Parking at the office/ hospital is at free multi-level parking lot, directly adjacent to the office/hospital.
Educational Materials
A large number of obstetric and gynecologic textbooks will be available to the students. Suggested reading materials will be provided as handouts. Our intention is to provide the basics of routine obstetrics and gynecology, both through academic reading, lectures, and with hands-on patient experience. Computer access is available at both the COG office and at the hospital.
Pagers
Pagers are not required for this rotation; however, students should bring their own cell phone and laptop.
Dress Code
The majority of the student/patient contacts will take place in a private office setting. Cheyenne is an informal town, but jeans and T-shirt are not acceptable dress. A white lab coat with appropriate student identification, worn over casual professional clothing will be fine. Scrubs will be available for Labor & Delivery.
