Site Overview

During their rotation at Kaiser Permanente Bellevue, students will rotate between Clinic at the Kaiser Bellevue Medical Center, OR at either the Bellevue or Capitol Hill Kaiser Ambulatory Surgery Centers and the Labor & Delivery unit at Overlake Hospital. During each week of the rotation you will have a combination of these experiences to best emulate what the typical life of a generalist Ob/Gyn looks like. You will work with 4 primary Ob/Gyn faculty over the course of your rotation. In the clinic students will be introduced to routine and high-risk prenatal care and a broad spectrum of gynecologic cases. They will take histories and perform physicals, including pelvic and breast exams and practice oral presentations and write-ups.  In the OR, students will have the opportunity observe a broad range of pathologies, to practice suturing, learn to manipulate the uterus during laparoscopic surgery and observe robotic surgery. On the Labor & Delivery days, the students will work with our on-call provider, covering both L&D at Overlake as well as the Kaiser Urgent Care for Ob/Gyn consults. They will help with new consults & admissions, follow laboring patients, assist with both vaginal and Cesarean deliveries and round on postpartum patients. Depending on the cases that arrive, patient consent and ability of the individual student, students may be able to perform some deliveries. Our goal is always as much hands-on involvement as possible during this rotation.

Evaluations

Students will be evaluated on their performance in surgery, delivery room and clinic; on their presentation and patient workups; and on their oral and written final examination taken at the University of Washington.
