Introduction
During your six week rotation at St. Luke's, you will be splitting your time between four different provider groups in Boise and Meridian, Idaho. St. Luke's treats a diverse patient population. It has a high OB service, a very well respected and recognized group of specialists in OB/GYN, including experts in the areas of Gyn/Onc, and is a top rated, award winning medical center. In this clerkship we hope to offer students a wide variety of experiences in obstetrics and gynecology.
Office Experience
Students will spend time with various primary preceptors throughout the 6 week block. In office, students can expect to be part of the normal evaluation and management exposure for women (breast/pelvic exams, common/diverse pelvic problems, contraceptive needs, pelvic pain), see normal and high risk OB care from registration to post partum, and perform colonoscopies, LEEP, etc.
Hospital Experience
Students will follow laborists/laboring patients as available. Students will assist in deliveries and with surgical procedures such as hysterectomies, pelvic floor repair, stress incontinence, laps, etc.
Didactics
There are didactic opportunities available to students as much or as little as students like. Students are expected to attend OB/GYN lecture M-F, rounds, and hospital CME talks.
Credentialing Information
Students will be required to complete credentialing requirements online prior to beginning of rotation and attend a half day in person training at St. Luke's on the 1st Monday of the rotation; online modules must be completed prior to access given for in person training. Contact Courtney Despres for credentialing information at least 4 weeks prior to your rotation.
Housing
For this required clinical clerkship students will be contacted by the Idaho WWAMI office at idwwami@uw.edu. Students are responsible for confirming whether they WILL or WILL NOT need to stay in the WWAMI medical student housing in a timely fashion. Prior to accessing the housing students are required to complete the necessary paperwork and provide a check for damage deposit.
The UW SoM WWAMI Student Travel web site is managed by the GoWWAMI team and is the best resource for students who have questions about travel and reimbursement.
Additional Details
Student credentialing and onboarding for clerkships that rotate through the St. Luke’s Health System are now handled via myClinicalExchange, a web-based platform. The Idaho WWAMI office will add the rotation dates to myClinicalExchange and the St. Luke’s Health System team will then approve the rotation and review any onboarding documents within that system.
There will be a cost to create an account to use the program.
All scheduling will continue to be completed through the UWSOM’s registrar’s office, so you should not be making any changes to or requesting rotations in myClinicalExchange.
