Bozeman, Montana is located in the mountains of southwest Montana and is the home of Montana State University. Our community of 53,293 (plus 16,841 MSU students during the school year) is the fastest growing of all Montana towns and cities. Our outstanding outdoor recreational opportunities are a magnet to people of all ages and all walks of life across the United States. (Bring along your bike, backpack, and canoe!) We are committed to healthcare, education, and research.

Credentialing

Four weeks prior to your rotation start date, please complete the Bozeman Health Credentialing Paperwork, and return to Ali McInnis (AMcInnis@bozemanhealth.org), along with the following:

  • Current CV
  • Copy of Driver’s License
  • Castle Branch shots summary
  • Copy of UW background check

Epic is the EHR that will be be utilized during this rotation.

Office/Clinic Experiences

During the rotation, students will work with Dr. Waring, Dr. Simons, Dr. Bodnar, and Dr. Long. This involves learning what general OB/GYN patient care is about by seeing a wide variety of patients in the outpatient setting. In addition to general OB/GYN, there is an option to rotate through Maternal Fetal Medicine, Urogynecology, and Breast Oncology depending on student interest. At the end of each clinic day, there will be a brief review and possible assignment to look up and report on the next day; this will not be onerous but just a way to solidify what students learned in the office.

Hospital Experience

Students will have the opportunity to assist with surgeries and take part in as many deliveries as they would like. Students are expected to pre-round in the morning on patients they were involved with in terms of deliveries or surgeries.

Students will also go the ER with their supervising physician when on call and follow those patients through their hospital stay for admission and/or surgery. In general, students will take call once a week and one weekend of call during the rotation. The call will be in the hospital with one of the physicians above.

The rotation is flexible, providing the student maximum exposure to general OB/GYN while also allowing for more customizable opportunities in the hospital and in the clinic.

Transportation & Housing

You are responsible to arrange your own transportation. The site will provide housing. Housing in Bozeman is a 3 bedroom, 2 bath condo, approximately 8 minutes away from the hospital by car, and 15 minutes by bike. It is highly recommended to have a car, particularly during the winter months. Housing will be shared with other clinical WWAMI students, so is not setup for family housing. No pets allowed.
