Housing contacts & Car

A car is a must for the OB rotation in Butte as the student works in multiple offices. Housing is either a small stand-alone house near the hospital or a 1 bedroom apartment just a few minutes east of the hospital. No pets please. Contact Serena Brewer or Karen Cook at least 6 weeks prior to the rotation with housing requests or questions:

About the Clinic

The St. James Healthcare OBGYN Clinic is located in the Continental Divide Building, 305 W Porphyry Street, Butte, MT.  As the most comprehensive women’s health program in the region, we offer services for every stage of life, and the most advanced minimally invasive procedures personalized to meet the individual health care needs of each patient and new family. 

Inpatient services take place a few blocks from the clinic, at St. James hospital. There we provide labor and delivery services including c-section. Also a full range of surgical services, with minimally invasive techniques leading the way -- both traditional laparoscopy and robotic surgery. Students are expected to participate in all aspects of women's health care, including outpatient clinical care, inpatient rounding and surgeries. We work closely with other specialties throughout our healthcare system.

Currently the clinic has 3 full time OBGYN physicians, 2 midwives and 1 physician assistant.

About Butte

Butte, Montana is rich in history, art and culture in the midst of one of the most beautiful areas of Southwest Montana. Rimmed by the peaks of mountain ranges, Butte provides nearby access to trout fishing, world-class golf courses, hiking, hunting, skiing, soaking (in commercial hot springs), snowmobiling, and many other outdoor recreational opportunities.

Butte, MT climate is mild during summer when temperatures tend to be in the 60’s and extremely cold during winter when temperatures tend to be in the 10’s. There is typically a 30-40 degree temperature variance each day.
