Overview

2020 has brought to the fore of our consciousness two global pandemics: COVID-19 and systemic racism. Neither can, nor should, be ignored. On the matter of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, OB/GYN has committed and mobilized the entire Department to learning and improving through the development and execution of anti-racism practices. Below are some examples of our DEI education sessions:

  • Annual Department Anti-Racism Workshop
  • Resident Journal Club focused on Health Equity
  • Exploring the Effects of the Carceral System on Women of Color and their Reproductive Health Workshop
  • Quarterly Health Equity Morbidity and Mortality Conference
  • Best Practices in Hiring Workshop for Department Leadership
  • Department Hiring Toolkit: to reduce bias in hiring of faculty, staff and trainees
  • Department Microaggressions Workshop
  • Department Health Equity Book Club
  • Department Climate and Demographic Survey
  • There is also a compilation of anti-racism resources in this folder that came out of our initial meetings in June 2020.

If you are passionate about an issue related to racism and diversity in our workplace, let the DEI Council know. We can connect you with other volunteers in the department who may already be working on the issue, or give you some resources and support to get started on making positive change.
