Biography

Ivana Thompson, MD MSCI FACOG, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Division of Complex Family Planning. Dr. Thompson offers the full range of general OB/GYN and reproductive health care. She is board certified with the American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology.

Dr. Thompson believes in partnering with patients to achieve their desired goals. She centers and uplifts the voices of her patients to ensure they are heard. She also uses shared decision making techniques to engage patients in the personal solution development.

Dr. Thompson likes to play board games, explore stationery, read for pleasure, and spend time with her family in her down time.

Clinic Interests: 

General obstetrics & gynecology, family planning care, contraception, and culturally informed and responsive healthcare.

Research Interests: 

Emergency contraception, health disparities, family planning quality improvement work.

Why did you decide to pursue a career in OBGYN?

I chose a career in obstetrics and gynecology because the choices folk make regarding their reproductive and sexual health can have ramifications throughout their lives. As an obstetrician and gynecologist, I am well suited to give people the information and workup they need to make the choices that best serve them.

What do you like about working at UW Medicine?

I enjoy the camaraderie I feel working with service-minded colleagues and learners.

What are your favorite things about living in the Seattle area?

I enjoy the fresh air, great food, and good people here in Seattle.

What inspires you?

I am inspired by the goodness within people and the genuine connections I make with the folk I serve.
