Global Health Elective Experience
Residents in good clinical standing have the opportunity to take part in a collaborative global health elective during their four week, third year, elective block in Naivasha, Kenya.
The Naivasha, Kenya, clinical rotation is a one month rotation designed to introduce residents to determinants, structure and challenges surrounding health and health care delivery in a resource-poor setting.
The rotation is comprised of several different components, including clinical work at a district hospital, community health work, partnerships with local trainees, and teaching.
Residents have the opportunity to work in the recently built maternity ward, take part in obstetric and gynecologic surgeries, and lead teaching and ward rounds.
This rotation is a collaborative effort with the Departments of Medicine, Pediatrics and Family Medicine and is supported and supervised by an onsite UW faculty member.
Global Health Research
Several faculty members participate in international women's health research focused on Global Health projects that may offer opportunities for resident involvement to fulfill their research requirement.
Global Health Seminar
This monthly Global Health seminar is planned by and designed for residents and fellows in all disciplines.
Sessions provide a forum for residents and fellows with an interest in pursuing global health as part of their career to interact and engage in discussions on a wide range of topics.
It is held on the first Tuesday of every month at 6:00 p.m. in the Harris Hydraulics building large conference room.
Global Health Certificate
The University of Washington Global Health Certificate for Residents & Fellows is a certificate program offered to all residents and fellows in training at UW. This certificate draws on courses, seminars, and other global health training activities available at UW. Applicants must have their department's approval in order to meet the certificate requirements.
